Valmet announced the delivery of a new Quality Control System (QCS) to Metsä Tissue’s Mariestad mill in Sweden, aimed at supporting the performance and securing the quality of the tissue machine PM 35.

“By upgrading to Valmet’s state-of-the-art QCS scanner on PM 35 we are simplifying operations and enhancing product quality. Integrating the new system with our distributed control system will reduce complexity for operators and provide the quality control we need to improve runnability and consistency from papermaking through converting,” stated Leif Forsander, Technology and Development Engineer at Metsä Tissue Scandinavia.

This order further consolidates the long-standing cooperation between Metsä Tissue and Valmet. It follows earlier deliveries to the same site, including a Valmet Advantage DCT 200 tissue machine (PM 37) and two converting lines.

“Valmet has recently finalized two successful quality control system start-ups at Metsä Tissue’s Nyboholm and Pauliström mills in Sweden. The collaboration has been excellent, and we are pleased to continue with the next QCS project at Mariestad PM 35. By replacing the old quality control system, the customer secures high performance and consistent end product quality for the future,” commented Roger Holmedahl, Senior Sales Manager, Automation Solutions at Valmet.

The scope includes a Valmet IQ Quality Control System featuring a scanner with basis weight, moisture, and softness measurements. The system is designed to monitor and optimize end-product quality by automating critical control points. Valmet will also deliver the complete mechanical installation and sheet transfer modification. A service agreement covering predictive maintenance and 24/7 support will ensure smooth start-up and reliable operation.
