Metsä Board invests in finishing operations at Kemi mill

Metsä Board is investing in the finishing operations at its Kemi mill in Finland with the modernisation of the board machine winder. The investment will be carried out during the mill’s annual maintenance shutdown scheduled for October–November 2026.

The project is aimed at further improving product quality, production efficiency and supply chain reliability at the Kemi mill, strengthening its position in the global coated white-top kraftliner market. The winder modernisation will enhance the performance of the mill’s finishing operations while contributing to greater operational stability and more reliable deliveries to customers.

Supporting Kemi’s role in the global packaging supply chain

Metsä Board Kemi has an annual production capacity of approximately 465,000 tonnes and is the world’s largest producer of coated white-top kraftliners. The mill’s products are primarily used as the top layer of corrugated packaging supplied to markets worldwide.

By modernising the winder, Metsä Board aims to further strengthen the mill’s ability to consistently meet customer quality requirements while improving the reliability of its production and deliveries. The investment therefore supports Kemi mill’s strategic role within the global corrugated packaging supply chain, combining improved finishing efficiency with consistent product quality and dependable customer service.
