Fornaci Paper Mill in Italy assigns to Sael the order for the Silent Drive and the MCC/DCS Steam Management.

The successful stream of achievements over the years in many rebuildings at Fornaci Paper Mill in Italy, has led the management to assign to Sael a new order. The PM1 machine drive rebuilding, the MCC for Steam pumps/hoods/actuators and the DCS modification/implementation for PM1 as well (main contractor: Aerothermic from Lucca / Italy).

The modification required for the entire hood and steam section, will enclose all the upgrade linked to the sectional drive of the machine: where the dryers will be converted into Silent Drive. The new implementation, also complete of all the wiring “to and from” the electrical cabinet, including the cable passage-duct, will be incorporated into the main machine drive built by Sael in 2019 and started-up in October 2023.

The “DCS in Drive”, structured for further implementation, will be expanded with all the new additions. The supervision system offers powerful diagnostic tools to the machine operators. Messages, videos, trends of the main measurable units, together with a complete documentation, will help operators to drive the machine at the best. An open source software project. Main project highlights:

  • Addition of 9 new inverters Water Cooling by SAEL.
  • Management of the automation supplied by Aerothermic.

The automation will consist of a new electrical cabinet equipped by a 1500 S7 plc Fail-safe for all the technological functions and the Fail-safe I/O remote modules implementations. The system will enclose a new recipes section specifically created for the paper mill. To produce a specific paper formerly stored, it will involve the drives, hood, vacuum set points sent to the existing, and future inverters/actuators. The system will store all the trends to a deep understanding of any anomaly, allowing a quick countermeasure.
