Possible buyer for Shuttered Fort Frances Paper Mill
A possible buyer has emerged for the closed Resolute Forest Products paper mill in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Hundreds of workers lost their jobs when the paper mill closed in 2014. Now, the Town of Fort Frances says Repap Resources Group is trying to negotiate the purchase of the mill.
“We look forward to assisting Repap Resources Group in their bid to purchase the Fort Frances paper mill. Returning 263 new jobs in the Rainy River District is remarkable. It will not only reunite families will also provide long term opportunities for our youth,” Mayor June Caul said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Repap would also have to negotiate with the Ontario government for access to wood to feed the mill. The Town says the mill could potentially restart next year if a deal is completed. Fort Frances is across the Rainy River from International Falls, Minn.
