Suzano acquires 10% stake in Imetame’s new port project in Brazil

Suzano has entered into an agreement with Imetame Group to acquire a 10% equity stake in Imetame Logística Porto S.A., the company developing a new greenfield port in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil.

The transaction will see Suzano acquire its stake through the contribution of company-owned land strategically located for the development of the port. The operation will not affect the operational or economic performance of its Aracruz pulp mill, which is located in the same region.

The project is being developed by Imetame Group, a Brazilian industrial group headquartered in Aracruz, and will comprise five specialised terminals dedicated to containers, general cargo, dry bulk, liquid bulk and ship-to-ship operations.

Container terminal expected to start operations in 2028

The container terminal is being developed as a joint venture with Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT), the terminals division of Hapag-Lloyd, and is expected to become operational by mid-2028. The remaining four terminals will be developed in subsequent phases according to the overall construction schedule.

The new container facility will feature a draft of 17 metres and 750 metres of quay, together with state-of-the-art container handling equipment. Once operational, it is expected to have an annual handling capacity of approximately 1.2 million TEU.

Suzano’s participation in the project adds a major pulp and paper industry player to the development of the new logistics infrastructure in Espírito Santo, while the investment structure allows the company to contribute strategically located land without affecting operations at its nearby Aracruz pulp production complex.

The development of the port is expected to expand logistics and cargo handling infrastructure in the region, with the container terminal representing the first of the five specialised terminals planned for the project.
