Appleton Coated restarts third paper machine
A third paper machine is running at the former Appleton Coated paper mill.
General manager Doug Osterberg tells the machine went online Monday. “This one will be on a part-time basis five days a week. The others are running 24/7,” Osterberg told. “As we are able to bring in additional people, we’ll be filling it out so all three will be 24/7”.
Osterberg says the mill is making some of the products it made before the mill went into receivership last year but it’s also making more packaging material – corrugated medium and liner board – which are new.
“The Prang and writing market is declining, and we recognize that, and we’re working on transitions to the packaging side where there is good opportunity”. The mill is also installing a system to recycle old corrugated containers into pulp, he said.
