Stora Enso develops new 40 g/m² paper at its Hylte newsprint mill in Sweden

Stora Enso mill in Hylte have been in the process of developing a new 40 gram paper with qualities that are highly wanted by Stora Ensos global customers.

“With our new 40 gram paper our customers get more print surface for their money, a lower distribution cost and a paper that gives a sense of higher basis weight compared to a 42,5 gram newsprint.

Customers need and their wishes are one of our incentives in our product development and when our market are more challenging than ever, we as a supplier must be more innovative and utilize our competence to find new interesting products that gives a clear profit to our customers, says Mikko Sorjonen, Production Manager at Hylte Mill”.

The challenge with developing a new paper grade with more bulk is based on several factors. You need more virgin fiber – thermomechanical pulp (TMP), right mix of recycled paper, less filling and right process equipment.

“It´s a demanding and challenging process to develop a new paper with a new basis weight, therefore we are pleased to be able to introduce our new 40 gram paper. We have already noticed an interest among our existing customers where more and more sees the potential by producing on our new paper. The first reels have already been delivered around the world, says Mikko Sorjonen, Production Manager, Hylte Mill.
