Stora Enso names future forest company Bergslagets Skogar

Stora Enso announced that its future Swedish forest asset company will operate under the name Bergslagets Skogar, marking another step in the planned separation of the Group’s forest assets into an independent listed company.
The new entity will comprise Stora Enso’s Swedish forest holdings, representing more than 1.2 million hectares of sustainably managed forest land across Sweden. The planned separation remains subject to the necessary approvals and is expected to be completed during the first half of 2027.
The name Bergslagets Skogar reflects the company’s historical roots linked to the Falun copper mining region and underlines its long-term approach to sustainable forest management and value creation.
“Forest land is a long-term asset class where value is generated through biological growth and sustainable forest management. Bergslagets Skogar reflects our ambition to manage our assets with a clear focus on long-term value creation and operational excellence,” said Tuomas Hallenberg, CEO of the new forest company.
Europe’s largest listed pure-play forest company
Following the planned separation, Bergslagets Skogar is expected to become Europe’s largest listed pure-play forest company, offering investors direct exposure to forest assets as a distinct investment class. According to Stora Enso, the new company will focus on value creation through biological growth, operational efficiency, sustainable forest management, and additional revenue opportunities linked to land use and forestry activities.
Long-term wood supply agreements with Stora Enso are also planned, ensuring stable demand while maintaining operational flexibility for both companies.
Strategic separation process continues
The separation is intended to unlock value both for Stora Enso’s renewable packaging operations and for its forest asset portfolio, enabling each business to pursue dedicated strategies and capital allocation frameworks.
