Metsä Group’s Joutseno pulp mill to restart operations; Rauma pulp mill to begin production shutdown

Metsä Group announced operational updates for its pulp mills in Joutseno and Rauma as it adjusts production in line with market conditions for long-fibre softwood pulp. The start-up of the Joutseno pulp mill, following the production shutdown that began in June, will commence on Monday, 8 December 2025.

At the Rauma pulp mill, a production curtailment shutdown of approximately one month is scheduled to begin on Monday, 15 December 2025. The mill will restart operations gradually, department by department, from Wednesday, 7 January 2026.

Commenting on the situation, Ismo Nousiainen, CEO of Metsä Fibre, stated: “Through production shutdowns, we are adjusting our production to reflect the market demand for long-fibre softwood pulp. Since the market situation for softwood pulp is estimated to continue uncertain for the beginning of next year, we are preparing for significant production curtailments at Joutseno pulp mill also during 2026.”
