Valmet to deliver key pulp mill technology to Shandong Sun Paper’s new Yandian mill in China

Valmet will supply critical pulp mill technology to Shandong Sun Paper’s new pulp mill located in Yandian, Shandong Province, China. The delivery will include the cooking and fiberline, a high-efficiency recovery boiler, and ash crystallization. The scope also covers analyzers and measurements for fiberline control, as well as an optimizer and safety-related systems for the recovery boiler. The new mill is designed for an annual pulp production capacity of 600,000 tonnes and is expected to start up in the last quarter of 2026.
“Valmet has been a trusted partner for our recent chemical pulp lines. The technologies delivered to Beihai have demonstrated high availability and efficient raw material utilization. Valmet has consistently supported us in achieving the success of our projects. This marks our third cooking and fiberline delivery and second recovery boiler delivery from Valmet since 2020, and we are confident in yet another successful collaboration,” says Zehua Liu, General Manager of Sun Paper.
“Sun Paper continues to trust Valmet’s cooking, fiberline, and recovery boiler technologies for its latest pulp investments. Through excellent cooperation, we developed a tailored concept to meet our customer’s needs. With our strong local presence in China and competitive technologies and services, we are confident in delivering this project successfully despite the tight schedule,” says Sami Riekkola, Business Area Executive Vice President, Pulp Energy and Circularity, Valmet.
“We are pleased to extend our strong collaboration with Sun Paper through this strategic investment. Beyond our past deliveries of pulp, paper, and automation technology, we also have an extensive services partnership with the customer. Our Chinese teams will play a vital role in this project through engineering, procurement, project management, and site services,” says Xiangdong Zhu, Executive Vice President, China, Valmet.
Valmet’s cooking and fiberline delivery will include advanced process technologies, featuring the latest Valmet Continuous Cooking developments to optimize energy and raw material efficiency. The fiberline will be equipped with the newest generation of Valmet TwinRoll wash presses, combined with Valmet’s screening, oxygen delignification, and bleaching systems to ensure high pulp quality, minimal effluent discharge, and excellent environmental performance. The line will have a production capacity of 600,000 tonnes per year and will be monitored using the Valmet Fiberline Analyzer and other advanced measurement tools for process control.
The recovery island scope includes a Valmet Recovery Boiler and Ash Crystallization system. Designed for a capacity of 3,500 tonnes per day, the high-power recovery boiler offers long operational campaigns between cleanings and supports increased renewable electricity production for internal mill consumption. The ash crystallization system effectively removes chloride and potassium from the chemical recovery cycle, reducing corrosion risks and contributing to lower emissions. The delivery also includes the Valmet Recovery Boiler Optimizer and safety-related systems.
