The annual maintenance shutdown at Metsä Group’s Kemi mills was completed on schedule. Both the bioproduct mill and the paperboard mill resumed operations as planned, with the start-up phase beginning by department on Friday, July 4, 2025, and completed over the following two days.

“The annual maintenance shutdown went smoothly and according to plan. During the inspection, damaged evaporator units were replaced and numerous maintenance operations were carried out. This work laid the foundation for a successful start-up and enabled stable and consistent production at the planned capacity,” said Pekka Kittilä, Mill Manager of the bioproduct mill.

“A significant amount of maintenance and servicing work was completed during the shutdown period, in line with our maintenance plan. Safety remained our top priority – both during maintenance shutdowns and during regular production,” added Tomi Seppä, Mill Manager of the paperboard mill.

During the start-up phase, temporary odour disturbances were reported in the vicinity of the mill area.
