Pixelle to cease production at Chillicothe Paper mill in August

Pixelle Specialty Solutions has updated its WARN Act notifications for employees at the Chillicothe Paper Mill and plans to cease production at the facility by August 10, 2025.
Following the initial announcement in April, Pixelle engaged with government and community partners to evaluate every viable option. Despite these efforts, a further postponement is no longer possible due to a recent decline in staffing levels and customer demand. The updated WARN notice therefore confirms August 10, 2025, as the final day of operations at the Chillicothe Paper Mill.
Pixelle continues to support affected employees with a comprehensive range of resources, including career transition services, job placement assistance, and continued access to the Employee Assistance Program.
The company remains in active discussions with JobsOhio and federal, state, and local officials to determine the future of the site and ensure support for impacted workers. Ongoing efforts to explore redevelopment opportunities reflect a shared commitment by Pixelle, JobsOhio, and public sector leaders to ensure a responsible and constructive transition for the Chillicothe and Ross County communities, as well as for the dedicated workforce that has operated the mill for decades.
While Pixelle continues to evaluate all viable sale opportunities for the plant, it is simultaneously preparing for site decommissioning in the absence of a transaction with a qualified buyer. Should no sale materialize, the company intends to transfer the Chillicothe mill property to an entity designated by JobsOhio—or another governmental body—for nominal consideration, to facilitate long-term redevelopment of the site.
