Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has welcomed more than 70 representatives from corrugators across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa to its Duino mill in Italy to celebrate the successful start-up of its newly converted recycled containerboard machine. The €200 million investment marks a major milestone in Mondi’s strategy to expand recycled containerboard capacity, create long-term value and strengthen supply chain resilience for the benefit of customers worldwide.

Following the conversion of the existing paper machine, the Duino site is now equipped to produce 420,000 tonnes of high-quality recycled containerboard annually once full production capacity is reached. The mill’s product portfolio includes waste-based fluting starting at 80 gsm, testliner from 90 gsm upwards, and paper reels ranging from 0.95 m to 3.35 m, produced on Mondi’s widest recycled containerboard machine. Strategically located, the mill ensures short delivery distances to Italian and neighbouring markets, while nearby ports allow for efficient access to international customers.

“Launching this mill on time demonstrates the strength and dedication of our team and reflects our long-term commitment to containerboard customers,” stated Klaus Peller, COO Mondi Containerboard. “With this machine, we are investing in their future as well – providing secure supply, sustainable packaging products, excellent service and the opportunity to grow together.”

Mondi’s extensive containerboard portfolio spans from fully recycled grades to 100% virgin fibre solutions, delivering sustainable, high-performance packaging for a broad range of applications. With Duino now fully integrated into Mondi’s value chain, customers gain access to an even wider choice of solutions, supported by an expanded network of six containerboard mills worldwide.
