Domtar donates $25,000 to Indspire to support Indigenous students

Domtar announced a $25,000 contribution to Indspire’s Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries and Scholarships programme on 23 September 2026. The initiative helps remove financial barriers for First Nations, Inuit and Métis students across Canada who are pursuing and completing post-secondary education.
The Government of Canada will match the contribution, doubling the available support to $50,000.
“Education creates opportunity and strengthens communities,” said Luc Thériault, Domtar’s President – Canada and CEO, Pulp and Wood Products. He said the partnership would help Indigenous students achieve their educational goals and open pathways to rewarding careers.
Thériault described the contribution as an investment in the next generation of the forest industry. The scholarship provides financial assistance to Indigenous students enrolled in forestry-focused college and university programmes, as well as skilled trades and apprenticeships.
The company also referred to the experience of Colten Wycotte, a previous recipient of a Domtar-funded Building Brighter Futures scholarship, who described the difference the support had made to his education and family life.
Thériault said support for Indigenous education formed part of Domtar’s commitment to building strong relationships with Indigenous communities and contributing to reconciliation through practical action. He added that the federal matching programme would extend the contribution’s reach and support more students throughout their education.
The next application deadline for Building Brighter Futures is 1 November 2026. Students can apply through the Indspire funding portal.
