Cascades announces the permanent closure of its Niagara Falls corrugated medium manufacturing operations

Cascades announces the permanent closure of its corrugated medium manufacturing facility located in Niagara Falls, NY, as part of the ongoing optimization of the company’s packaging production platform. Production at the facility will cease no later than September 3, 2025.
This decision is consistent with Cascades’ strategic initiative to enhance profitability and customer service excellence. The Niagara Falls plant has an annual production capacity of 200,000 short tons. A second machine at this location was previously shut down in 2023. Closure-related costs are estimated to be approximately $5 million.
“This decision, while challenging, is essential for optimizing the performance of our Packaging sector,” said Jean-David Tardif, Executive Vice-President, Packaging. “Cascades has very promising growth prospects, and we remain well-positioned to seize strategic and sustainable opportunities. Our path forward is clear: simplify, optimize, and focus.”
Cascades expresses sincere gratitude to the 123 employees directly affected by this closure and is committed to supporting them throughout the transition, including providing job search assistance. The decision to close the Niagara Falls facility does not diminish its significant contributions to the local community and its notable achievements over its 38 years of operation. The company will ensure a smooth transition for its customers, benefiting from enhanced synergies and efficiencies provided by its streamlined production network.
