Altri achieves A rating from CDP and strengthens leadership in climate action

Altri achieved an A rating from the CDP in 2025, positioning itself above the international sector average, which stands at B, and further reinforcing its leadership in the fight against climate change.

CDP’s assessment focused on three key pillars – Climate Change, Forests and Water – with Altri obtaining ratings of A, A- and A-, respectively. These results placed the company among the world’s leading performers in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

The evaluation highlighted Altri’s strong performance across multiple categories, particularly its business strategy within both the Climate Change and Water pillars. Additional areas of distinction included impacts, opportunities and risks, energy management, environmental policies, carbon emissions reduction initiatives, as well as emissions verification and reporting. In several of these categories, Altri achieved top scores (A) across all three pillars assessed by CDP.

Commenting on the achievement, José Soares de Pina, CEO of Altri, stated: “The attribution of an A rating by CDP independently confirms the robustness of Altri’s strategy and the consistency of the work we have been developing in the areas of ESG and climate action. This recognition reinforces our purpose of actively contributing to the construction of a more renewable and sustainable world, embodied in a demanding 2030 Commitment with clear and measurable goals, the implementation of which we have been ensuring on an ongoing basis.”

Altri operates as a bioeconomy company and is a leading European producer of cellulosic fibres derived from certified forests. The Group is also active in the production of forest-based renewable energy. Its forestry strategy is based on the full utilisation of forest resources, including cellulosic fibres and forest residues, in line with circular economy principles.

The company is responsible for managing more than 100,000 hectares of forest, all of which are fully certified under two of the world’s most widely recognised systems for responsible forest management certification.

The Altri Group owns three cellulosic fibre mills in Portugal, with a combined installed production capacity exceeding 1.1 million tonnes per year, supplying global markets with high-quality fibres while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability.

CDP is an international non-profit organisation and represents the world’s largest environmental disclosure system. It independently assesses not only corporate environmental commitments but also their effective implementation. CDP scores are widely used to support investment and procurement decisions, contributing to the transition towards a sustainable, resilient and net-zero carbon economy.
