Mondi Neusiedler achieves one year of zero waste to landfill

Mondi announced that its Neusiedler mill in Austria has reached one full year of Zero Waste to Landfill operations, having operated for 12 consecutive months without sending any manufacturing waste to landfill. The achievement highlights the mill’s continued focus on efficient production and responsible waste management, reinforcing its commitment to circular manufacturing processes.

Through a collaboration with a recycling partner, wood ash generated from the recovery boiler – previously destined for landfill – is now recovered and reused. Following a dedicated treatment process and strict quality control, the material is supplied to the cement industry, where it is used as an additive in cement production.

This approach has enabled the complete elimination of landfill waste from manufacturing activities at the site, while ensuring that valuable resources remain within the production cycle. The initiative supports Mondi’s broader sustainability framework, the Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030), which focuses on circular solutions, climate action, and responsible resource management.

The result also contributes to Mondi’s Group-wide objective of reducing waste and increasing circular solutions across its operations. With this milestone, the Neusiedler mill further strengthens its role as a sustainable partner for customers in the professional print as well as technical and converting paper segments.

The site now joins Mondi’s Frantschach mill, which has already been operating as a Zero Waste to Landfill facility for several years.
