Voith launches new CellPress roll cover for chemically demanding pulp production environments

With the introduction of CellPress, Voith has expanded its portfolio with a roll cover specifically designed to withstand early wear caused by chemicals and high temperatures in pulp dewatering machines. The solution was developed for applications operating under particularly challenging chemical and thermal conditions, where users report reduced contamination, excellent wear resistance and extended service life, resulting in measurable cost savings.

The performance of CellPress is primarily linked to its advanced material properties. Its low water absorption minimizes the risk of swelling and mechanical deformation, while the cover’s limited reactivity to process chemicals such as oxygen, ozone, chlorinated components, sodium hydrogen sulfide and methanol significantly slows down material aging. This stability maintains hardness over long periods and ensures consistent dewatering efficiency. In addition, the high temperature resistance of up to 140°C makes CellPress suitable for positions exposed to intense thermal load, such as areas near steam boxes.

Field applications have already confirmed these benefits. In a South American pulp mill, the lump breaker cover remained in excellent condition after 15 months of operation, enabling it to be reground and reused. This led to annual savings of approximately USD 30,000 for the operator. Similarly, in a European twin wire press, fabric life increased from 180 to 260 days despite the demanding operating conditions.
