TAPPI announces 2015 Process Control Division Award recipient

TAPPI is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2015 Process Control Division Technical Award is Calvin Fu, Senior Control Engineer at Metso Automation.

This award recognizes Fu’s accomplishments and contributions which have advanced technology in the industry. “Although I have been working for almost my entire career in the process control area of the pulp & paper industry, this great honor is still a surprise ,” said Fu. “TAPPI is a well-known society in the pulp & paper industry and there are many highly qualified members for this award.”

Fu graduated from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University with B.A.Sc. and received his PhD from the University of British Columbia. He began his career as a research engineer at the University of British Columbia working primarily on advanced control applications in pulp and paper, visiting paper mills and pilot testing new modeling and control algorithms in simulated and production paper machines. Fu also taught a graduate course on optimal filtering and control in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Fu is currently Senior Control Engineer of Process Automation Systems at Metso Automation. His primary responsibility is control application development, particularly in paper maching QCS. He also develops engineering tools for process and control performance analysis and troubleshooting.
