Saica Group expands recovery network in Spain with FCC Ámbito acquisition
Saica Group expanded its recovery network in Spain through the acquisition of part of the business of FCC Ámbito, a subsidiary of FCC enviro. The operation mainly involved the recovery of paper and corrugated board, along with other non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste, and strengthened Saica’s presence in key territories across central, northern and western Spain, including the Madrid region.
As part of the transaction, Saica took over the activities previously carried out by FCC Ámbito at seven plants located in Madrid, Cáceres, Valladolid, Asturias, Vizcaya, León and Toledo. These facilities employed more than 150 people and generated a combined turnover of €33 million in 2024.
The acquisition represented a further step in Saica’s strategy to consolidate and expand its recovery operations in the Iberian Peninsula, reinforcing its integrated circular economy model that links paper recovery, recycling and paper and packaging production.

From FCC enviro’s perspective, Íñigo Sanz, CEO of FCC enviro, said: “This transaction is very satisfactory and is part of our policy of asset rotation and optimization to maximize shareholder value and focus on our development strategy.”
Following the completion of the acquisition, Saica Natur operated a total of 47 plants, of which 36 were located in Spain, with the remaining facilities in France, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Poland. The total workforce of the Saica Natur business unit increased to more than 1,700 employees, further strengthening the Group’s position as a leading player in paper and cardboard recovery and recycling in Europe.
