CAS touch! – Determination of the Particle Charge in the Wet End emtec Electronic at the MIAC 2015 in Lucca

This year from October 14th until 16th, emtec Electronic will be present at the “MIAC 2015” in Italy. In cooperation with AFG Analytic, the company will introduce the new Particle Charge Analyzing System CAS touch! at booth no. B5 in Lucca.

In the wet end of the paper and board production process, it is extremely important to get detailed information about the charge of particles and the cationic or anionic demand in the pulp suspension. This information is delivered by the particle charge measurement device CAS Charge Analyzing System. AFG Analytic introduces, in cooperation with emtec Electronic, the new CAS touch! Because of its compact construction the new device is significantly smaller and lighter than ever before. After unpacking, the CAS touch! is immediately ready to use without assembling further parts – so take it out, switch it on and start the measurement. The new equipment is the latest state of the art and is operated by a touch screen display, which shows the titration curve during a measurement and the measuring results. The new Charge Analyzer has two USB ports for connecting a PC or an external keyboard. The PC Software allows an export of the measurement data with two mouse clicks to Excel, but the data can also be stored on an USB flash drive. The user-friendly software enables an easy operation of the device and offers measuring procedures, which are easy to understand. In addition to the fixed titration, dynamic titration procedures, back-titration and customized titration procedures are possible. The proven measuring principle and functions of the measuring device have not changed. Both, the streaming potential and the pH value can be measured simultaneously, making it possible to easily determine isoelectric and flocculation points of a sample.

Besides these features, further advantages of the CAS touch! can be experienced – the first customers have already expressed their appreciation about this new development.

The size and the weight of the CAS touch! are among the benefits especially for the use in the field, because together with all accessories it is possible to transport the device as hand luggage on air trips. Also the smaller and lighter measuring device is offered in three different versions (without, with one or two integrated titrators) and is able to satisfy the titration requirements of the user and different conditions.

Moreover, the knowledge about the surface charge of pulp fibers is also essential, which can be measured with the FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer in the lab. Furthermore, emtec Electronic developed a new Online measuring device FPO Fiber Zeta Potential Analyzer Online, which measures the Zeta Potential of fibers directly in the process and immediately delivers reliable and necessary information concerning the efficiency of chemicals in the process.

In addition to controlling the wet end, it is necessary to get information about the quality of the base and final products. The EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester is one of the devices for determining important paper surface properties such as hydrophoby and sizing as well as the porosity and pore structure, which have influences on the printability, coatability, and gluability. Especially for tissue and nonwoven products, the TSA Tissue Softness Analyzer gives reliable and objective information about the real softness, smoothness/ roughness, stiffness as well as the final hand feeling. The availability of these three parameters opens a huge amount of chances for the optimization of the tissue production and converting processes.

In summary, the application of all these measuring devices leads to the optimization of the production and converting processes to gain the best possible quality at the lowest possible costs. All the devices mentioned are shown and explained at booth no. B5 at the MIAC in Lucca.
