PaperWorks to expand its folding carton capabilities

PaperWorks Industries, a leading integrated North American paperboard packaging supplier, will make a strategic investment of more than $11 million CAD ($9 million USD) over the next year to expand the capabilities of its Boehmer Box folding carton manufacturing facility in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. The plant was one of the facilities acquired from CanAmPac in July.

The investment in Boehmer will include new sheet-fed lithographic printing presses and related carton-making equipment. Upgrading the 340,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space will enable Boehmer to increase carton production by almost 75 percent.

PaperWorks President and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Kwilinski emphasized that the investment will build on Boehmer’s current design and production capabilities for high-quality, offset litho-printed folding cartons. The facility manufactures folding cartons for a variety of products including dry and frozen food, beverage, pharmaceutical, household goods, personal care and institutional foodservice.

“We purchased Boehmer Box because of its demonstrated excellence in operational effectiveness, customer service and quality,” Kwilinski said. “We now want to leverage that strong foundation to build a best-in-class site. The goal is to deliver even better quality and service to our growing folding carton customer base—from concept to carton commercialization.”

PaperWorks also is planning on adding 150 employees across all areas of pre-press and production at the Kitchener facility over the next year.
