Paper Association releases statement on uncoated freesheet paper dumping petition

American Forest & Paper Association President and CEO Donna Harman has issued the following statement about the anti-dumping and countervailing duty petitions filed by several U.S. manufacturers and the United Steelworkers with the U.S. Commerce Department and the International Trade Commission for certain uncoated freesheet paper from China, Indonesia, Brazil, Portugal and Australia.

“AF&PA supports free and fair trade policies. U.S. trade laws include provisions to ensure that U.S. companies and workers are not harmed by foreign unfair trade practices. The petitions for an anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigation filed are an important part of ensuring robust and competitive global markets. We encourage the Commerce Department and the International Trade Commission to review carefully the evidence provided and to make a determination as quickly as possible.

“The U.S. paper industry operates in a highly-competitive global market. Government enforcement of domestic and international trade rules is important for markets to function properly.”
