Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik commissions new corrugator

The Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik in Tornesch, part of the Panther Group, commissioned a new 400 m/minute, 2.8 m wide high-speed corrugator on schedule on 04.01.2016. The old corrugator was shut down on 18.12.2015 and dismantled in only 78 hours, while the new line was simultaneously assembled and started in record time. The advantages of this new “state-of-the-art” machine are very high productivity combined with fully automated IT control of corrugated board production speed and quality. All the IT components available from the machine manufacture based on Industry 4.0 technology concepts have already been integrated.

The line can also process paper weights of 40 g/m² and above, thus meeting customers’ requests for weight savings on packaging while maintaining stability.

The line is equipped with a Warp Control System and a Zero Defect System (ZDS). ZDS automatically detects un-glued corrugated board or splices, which are discarded from the production process at a downstream single sheet rejection station. This allows further processing of faultless semi-finished goods and their delivery to customers as tested optimum packaging. An integrated web cleaner frees the corrugated board from adhering dust. A dust-free surface is needed to achieve optimum printing in a subsequent high-quality post-print process.
