UPM and Royal Vaassen present fibre-based alternative to plastic and aluminium packaging solutions

In response to the increasing demand for recyclable packaging, Royal Vaassen, in cooperation with UPM Specialty Papers, developed a range of recyclable and food-safe barrier paper solutions designed for diverse end-use applications. The Barryrwrap concept, created by Royal Vaassen, is engineered to address packaging needs from medium up to the most demanding barrier requirements, including protection against oxygen and moisture.
With the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introducing stricter recyclability requirements, the availability of effective and recyclable packaging solutions has become crucial. Established paper and board recycling infrastructures provide a solid foundation to meet these future obligations.
“Our barrier papers are a sustainable alternative to laminates and plastics. They ensure strong protection while focusing on performance and circularity, and they are compatible with existing production lines and products such as coffee, stock and chocolate,” explained Mark Gerritsen of Royal Vaassen.
