Strathcona Paper bought by U.S. packaging company

PaperWorks Industries, Inc. of Pennsylvania has acquired CanAmPac, the parent company of coated recycled board (CRB) producer Strathcona Paper (Napanee, Ont.), folding carton manufacturer Boehmer Box and LYFT Visual graphic services.

Strathcona Paper is the largest producer of CRB in Canada. The company produces high-quality, clay-coated paperboard rolls and sheets in medium- to heavy-weight calipers. Boehmer Box is known for its high-quality offset-litho printed folding cartons for North American food packaging applications.

“CanAmPac is a leading Canadian integrated paperboard and consumer packaging supplier. Its quality-oriented manufacturing and converting capabilities, coupled with a complementary customer base, make it an ideal addition to the PaperWorks portfolio,” said Kevin Kwilinski, president and CEO, PaperWorks. “We look forward to providing an expanded packaging supply source for North American board and carton customers.”

PaperWorks manufactures CRB and uncoated recycled board at two mills in Philadelphia and Wabash, Ind.  Projected manufacturing output for the combined companies is approximately 400,000 tons of 100% recycled paperboard, annually. With the news acquisitions PaperWorks operates 19 North American locations with approximately 2,000 employees.

Strathcona Paper began in 1873 as the Napanee Paper Company. Since then, according to the Strathcona web site, it “has built a business on the strong foundations of continuous upgrades, modernization, research and capital investment.”
