The history of Rotocalco Mediterranea – “RotoMed” – is way older than the date of its fundation in 1999: the Loreto family has been working in the packaging industry since 1956 when Tommaso Loreto and Gabriella Cacchi funded Cielle Imballaggi (Cielle), one of the first industrial packaging producers of its generation. Since day-zero, the Group has vowed its commitment to find innovative solutions and thanks to its technological capabilities, know-how and passion has brought to the market new products across different sectors, challenging the status-quo and creating new market standards. Over the last few years, there has been a worldwide campaign towards the “Green economy” concept which has affected customers’ purchase habits and has revolutionised the tissue industry. RotoMed, moved by its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly solutions, has been a frontrunner to innovate within the sector, realizing the first patented paper-wrap solution in recyclable and biodegradable FSC paper. Since 2004 the company has worked on eco-friendly packaging both with paper and bio-films, which are directly extruded up to seven-layers in Cielle.

The know-how built in over 15-years of R&D projects and the centralization of customer satisfaction as part of the company mission, has been allowing RotoMed to be a key partner for multinational players within the tissue sector, serving customers globally (Europe, South America, North America, Russia) from the Italian plants. Our product offering covers the whole range, from handkerchief to toilet rolls and from kitchen towels to napkins, either in paper, polyethylene, PP, reclycled films and bio-materials. The Paper Wrap solution offers an innovative and more sustainable alternative to plastic films and works perfectly on the existing packaging machines with many advantages for our clients and the same performance as traditional plastic films in regards of both speed and weldability. To ensure this, we have developed over the course of the years a unique production process, easy to operate and highly reliable, leveraging our specialised machineries.

History has taught us that ethics and a long-term vision pay off

To continue expanding our green imprinting and to support our clients to innovate their packaging solution, we have also developed and launched an enhanced Bio film extruded directly in one of our plants through either 5 or 7 layers extruders. This material has obtained the prestigious TUV OK-COMPOST biodegradability certification and aims to replace in multiple applications the current films used. Our Bio film stands out for its excellent runnability and a more pleasant tactile and olfactory sensation, thematic very sensitive for the final customers. Finally, in the context of the recycled material, the company has achieved the prestigious “Plastic Second Life” certifications from Industrial Waste, Separate Collection and Mix Eco. The Group has invested over €30 m in the last three years in order to increase its eco-friendly product’s range and to enhance its presence in the tissue industry, aiming the title of leader of innovation.
