Metsä Board appoints Jussi Vanhanen as new Chair of the Board
Jussi Vanhanen will assume the role of Chair of the Board of Directors of Metsä Board. Vanhanen is also set to become the President and CEO of Metsä Group on the same date.

Metsä Board Corporation has announced that Ilkka Hämälä, Chair of the Board of Directors, will step down from his position effective 1 July 2025. Hämälä, who has served as Chair of the Board and as President and CEO of Metsä Group since 2018, played a central role in strengthening the company’s leadership as Europe’s leading producer of fresh fibre paperboard and as a pioneer in sustainability.

The Board of Directors has expressed its gratitude to Ilkka Hämälä for his significant contributions to the company’s growth and strategic development.

Jussi Vanhanen named as successor

Effective 1 July 2025, Jussi Vanhanen will assume the role of Chair of the Board of Directors of Metsä Board. Vanhanen is also set to become the President and CEO of Metsä Group on the same date.

Vanhanen joined the Board of Directors of Metsä Board in March 2025. He previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of Metsäliitto Cooperative from 2022 to 2025 and has held the role of CEO of Metsäliitto Cooperative since 1 May 2025. In addition to his new role as Board Chair, Vanhanen will also serve as Chair of the Nomination and HR Committee starting 1 July 2025. Jussi Linnanranta will continue in his current position as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.

Following Hämälä’s resignation, the Board of Directors of Metsä Board will consist of nine (9) members, in full compliance with the Company’s Articles of Association. As a result, no additional appointments to the Board are required at this time.
